Off-Road
WAYS TO PLAY AND TECHNIQUES TO TRY - AND ALL FOR £12!
You can't have a Land Rover show without an off-road course, and Stoneleigh's great off-road course was built by Land Rover - you can't get much better than that!
LRM's hit squad of marshals and experts have worked hard to make sure the course offers something for everyone. We have a challenging and exciting route through dense woodland, and even better a one-hour driving session will cost just £12!
Here's some pictures and comments from last year's show...
DRIVER COMMENTS
Paul Fish, Red Rose Lancashire, Series III SWB
"The course was superb
apart from yesterday when I broke a spring. The event has been really
good and the
course was very well marshalled. The weather hasn’t been
great but the rain helped the off-road course".
Paul Cornock, North Yorkshire Off-Road Club, Discovery
"We’ve
been here since Thursday. The off-road was good, but I broke my rear
tyre-bar unfortunately. It’s great to see that the marshals are staying
on top of things, and not letting people get stranded. They’re keeping
a close eye on the course".
James Bald, ORRP club, Freelander
"Amazing!
It was brilliant. The mud run was quite good fun and the first bomb
hole sent water all the way over my bonnet. It was my first time
off-roading but there will definitely be more to come. We’ll be back
again next year, but slightly more modified. I want to do some
modifications to it as it’s gone round the
course on standard tyres.
The only mishap we had was that the back bumper is now hanging off, but apart from that I thoroughly enjoyed it. We also lost our front number
plate somewhere and believe it’s still submerged somewhere, possibly in
the final bomb-hole. The course has changed me".
Robert Houseward, Breckland LRC and RRR, Range Rover, P38A
"The
course was great and I like the fact it was really close to the
showground so you don’t have to go a long way off site. It’s got a
really good mud-run and I thought it had a really good mix for
everyone. It was challenging enough without people taking their
vehicles in and wrecking everything.
I arrived on Friday afternoon
during the downpour and the gales, but I’ve thought the show has been
fantastic and it’s been a great move to come to Newark. I hope things
get sorted so that next year we don’t have two shows running
side-by-side. From what I’ve heard this has been the show to come to".
John Lee, Defender 110
"The
off-road was course was good, lots of fun and a reasonable price. We
came on Friday and braved the wind and the rain. This is our first Land
Rover show and we’ve really enjoyed it. We particularly enjoyed the
twist-off display, but I’d rather be off-roading. I’m very happy with
the course".
John Carroll, 1994 300Tdi 90
"We’ve been at the
show since Friday afternoon. It was very windy and wet but the tent
survived through the night. I’ve been off-roading on the Saturday and
the Sunday. The course was very good and extremely well thought out,
very safe, the marshalling has been superb. I’ve managed to get round
it on fairly standard tyres so it made it very enjoyable. It’s my first
ever off-road excursion, so I’ve really enjoyed it".
Richard Jeffrey, 110 County/Discovery
"The body is a 110 but the engine, gearbox and drive-train are all Discovery. I’ve been here marshalling and doing charity rides for the Range Rover Register. It’s been really good fun this weekend. Everyone who has been on the course has had a great time. The mud is really something else, it’s more of a concrete nature what with all the sand and water. It’s thick and nice and sticky. The course is a lot more compact but much more technical and there is a lot of soft-ground so you need that bit more under the car. It’s been a really good day".
MUD & ROCKS
A MUD run is a must on any off-road course and Newark has plenty more to offer. Axle twisters, side slopes, camel humps and a unique rock crawl arena make this the most technically demanding show course anywhere.
LANDROVERmax! OFF-ROAD MARSHALS
Thank you to the off-road marshalling team. It takes a special kind of person to kneel in liquid mud searching for somewhere to attach a rope to someone else’s Land Rover.
Thanks guys you did a brilliant job!
